Cunard Named "Top Overall" Large Cruise Line in Zagat Survey
23 November 2009 - ZAGAT Survey, the world's most trusted source for information about where to eat, drink, stay and play around the globe, released results of its first cruise line survey naming Cunard top overall large cruise line, taking highest honours in Cabins, Service, Dining and Facilities. Cunard, operator of the luxury ocean liners Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria, also received the highest rankings within its category for best Spa Services, Shopping, Itinerary Choices and Casinos.

"We are normally modest about the accolades that come our way. However, to be recognized by travellers who have sailed with us is a testament to the very high standard of service and the quality experiences delivered by our teams onboard," said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line. "With increasing anticipation for the arrival of our new Queen Elizabeth in October 2010, Cunard Line is a growing force in luxury cruising. These accolades reflect the view of our loyal valued guests and give further confidence to our travel agent partners who are introducing their clients to Cunard for the first time."

The survey, conducted on Zagat.com, covered 22 major cruise lines as voted on by surveyors who had taken nearly 22,700 separate cruises. In addition to individually rating the Cabins, Service, Dining, Facilities and Shipboard Activities of cruise lines in three categories - large ships (1,500+ passengers), mid-size ships (200 to 1,500) and small ships (less than 200) - Zagat surveyors were asked to rank the cruise lines in several areas including "Top Casinos/Gambling" and "Top Itinerary Choices."

Cunard's Queen Mary 2 Canyon Ranch SpaClub Named Among "Top 10 Best Spas on a Cruise Ship" in SpaFinder Readers' Choice Awards
9 October 2009 - SpaFinder, Inc., the global spa resource, has named the Canyon Ranch SpaClub aboard Cunard Line's flagship Queen Mary 2 among the top-10 best spas in the world for "Best Spa on a Cruise Ship" category in its seventh-annual SpaFinder Readers' Choice Awards. Based on votes submitted by readers of SpaFinder publications, including Spafinder.com, the awards represent the most comprehensive consumer assessment of the global spa market available today. Over 360,000 votes-a new record for the Reader's Choice Awards-were cast for favorite spas by continent, country, region and across 27 categories.

"After seven years of enthusiastic consumer participation, our Readers' Choice Awards have become the industry's premier award program-the spa world's answer to the Academy Awards(r)," said SpaFinder, Inc. President Susie Ellis. "Now that there are roughly 15,000 hotel, resort and destination spas operating worldwide, for Cunard's Queen Mary 2 Canyon Ranch SpaClub to be singled out by our readers is a tremendous honor."

"After five successful years in partnership with Canyon Ranch, this prestigious SpaFinder award confirms our choice and ongoing commitment to offer Queen Mary 2 guests the premier wellness experience at sea," said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line.

Cunard Announces Historic 2011 World Voyages Aboard the New Queen Elizabeth and Flagship Queen Mary 2
June 22, 2009 - Cunard Line is proud to announce the latest chapter in its storied history: the 2011 World Voyages. In January 2011, the youngest luxury fleet at sea will see two of its regal ocean liners embark on global odysseys that together will visit 57 ports of call across 34 countries including a maiden World Voyage for the new Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Mary 2 travelling the globe via the intriguing east-west route of passage.

Each itinerary will offer a unique adventure – featuring overnights in Sydney, Hong Kong and Dubai on Queen Elizabeth, and Cape Town, Sydney and Hong Kong on Queen Mary 2 - combined with the line’s hallmarks of gourmet fine dining, impeccable White Star Service™ and a wide variety of elegant stateroom accommodation including the renowned and award-winning Queens Grill and Princess Grill suites.

Queen Elizabeth Maiden World Voyage

For her maiden World Voyage, Queen Elizabeth will offer a complete circumnavigation of the globe from her home port of Southampton, crossing the Atlantic en route to New York. Especially compelling for US and Canadian guests is the option of embarking on their World Voyage experience from New York, Fort Lauderdale or – after the ship transits the Panama Canal - Los Angeles.

From the west coast, Queen Elizabeth will continue her westward journey to the ever-popular city of Sydney (where she will stay overnight) via the South Pacific and New Zealand before heading to the exotic ports of Asia including Singapore, Bali, Vietnam and Thailand as well as another overnight stay in Hong Kong. Then the ship sails on to Malaysia and India before calling on Dubai (also an overnight stay), followed by a visit to Oman before transiting the Suez Canal and taking in some of the sites of Egypt, Greece, Italy and Portugal en-route back to Southampton. Here North American guests can rendezvous with the Queen Mary 2 and take in a legendary Transatlantic crossing to complete their 103-day circumnavigation of the globe. Full World Voyage fares start from $19,995 per person.

Segment voyages capture the essence of the World Voyage and aboard Queen Elizabeth range from 12 to 25-days, including New York to Los Angeles (16 days), Los Angeles to Sydney (23 days), Sydney to Singapore (25 days), Singapore to Dubai (12 days) and Dubai to Southampton (19 days). Guests can enjoy great value by combining two or more consecutive segments to create adventurous Liner Voyages. Segment fares start from $2,545 per person.

Queen Mary 2 World Voyage

Queen Mary 2 will begin her fourth World Voyage in New York and her second passage sailing on an east-west route around the globe. After a call in Fort Lauderdale, the ship will head to the Caribbean and South America, calling on Barbados, Brazil and Uruguay before arriving for an overnight stay in the magnificent city of Cape Town in South Africa, the ship’s second visit to this exceptionally beautiful metropolis. From there she will sail to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean before an exploration of Australia that culminates with an overnight stay in Sydney. The ship continues on to New Zealand and Guam before sampling some highlights of China and Japan en-route to an overnight stay in Hong Kong, followed by visits to Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and India en-route to Dubai. From here, Queen Mary 2 will call in Egypt before making a transit of the Suez Canal that will take her to European calls in Italy, Monaco, Spain and the United Kingdom, her last call before ending her 103-day odyssey in New York. Full World Voyage fares start from $19,995 per person.

Segment voyages aboard Queen Mary 2 range from 15 to 25-days and include New York to Cape Town (23 days), Cape Town to Sydney (17 days), Sydney to Hong Kong (25 days), Hong Kong to Dubai (15 days) and Dubai to New York (23 days). Consecutive segments can be combined to experience adventurous Liner Voyages. Segment fares start from $3,245 per person.

Cunard is also pleased to offer guests the chance to enjoy the World Voyage experience using a combination of Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary 2. Embarking in New York, guests will be able to complete the first half of their World Voyage on Queen Elizabeth before transferring ships in Sydney and sailing back to New York on Queen Mary 2.

“Cunard’s World Voyages have been a highlight of our programmes since we introduced this travel adventure in 1922 and our two global journeys offer surprising value that is truly beyond expectation,” said Carol Marlow, president and managing director of Cunard Line.

Cunard Royal Rendenzvous

Exactly three years to the day after Cunard welcomed its trio of Queens in New York, this rare event is poised to take place again on January 13, 2011 when Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth call on New York for another spectacular Cunard Royal Rendezvous. Be among the few to experience this history-making day as you depart New York Harbour on one of the most famous ocean liners in the world.

Cunard's Queen Mary 2 Celebrates Fifth Birthday
January 8, 2009 - Queen Mary 2, the grandest ocean liner ever built and, since the retirement of QE2, the fastest passenger ship in the world, celebrates her fifth birthday on January 12, 2009. And with 2009 fares for Transatlantic Crossings starting from just $745 per person, there is no better time to join the half a million other guests who have so far enjoyed Cunard's flagship.

Queen Mary 2 entered service in January 2004 just four days after being named by Her Majesty The Queen during the most spectacular naming ceremony Southampton, her home port, had ever seen. Since that historic entry into service, Queen Mary 2 has sailed almost 750,000 nautical miles, completed 104 Atlantic crossings (the route for which she was specifically built, the first passenger ship to be built for that trade in 35 years), and made calls to 115 ports in 45 countries. She will spend her fifth birthday in the Caribbean.

Since becoming Cunard's flagship in May 2004, taking over the mantle from QE2, Queen Mary 2 has also become one of the most celebrated ships in the world and successfully continues the Cunard passenger liner tradition established almost 170 years ago.

"This is an important milestone for Queen Mary 2 and we are very proud of her many achievements," said Carol Marlow, president and managing director of Cunard Line. "In her young life, Queen Mary 2 has attracted thousands of well-wishers in many ports around the world, achieving iconic status."

To mark her fifth birthday, Queen Mary 2 will undertake a "lap of honour" around the UK departing from Southampton on October 15, 2009. This will be her first voyage around Britain, a journey that became so popular for QE2 to undertake as crowds came out to welcome her in every port. It is expected that Queen Mary 2, as the flagship of the British merchant fleet, should continue this Cunard tradition. This voyage will feature maiden calls for Queen Mary 2 at Greenock and Liverpool - ports which have close historic ties with Cunard.

Queen Mary 2 Dry Dock Improvements Feature New Stateroom Wireless Technology and Mobile Phone Service at Sea
November 17, 2008 - Following Queen Mary 2's recently completed refurbishment, there is now increased connectivity throughout the ship. In these days of instant communication, guests can now access their emails or websites while aboard the ship as easily as in the comfort of their own home. This makes a voyage on Queen Mary 2, and especially a Transatlantic Crossing, a real opportunity for those who want to get away from it all and still be able to get in touch whenever they want to for personal or business reasons.

Guests have the convenience of using their laptop computers in the privacy and comfort of their staterooms with the addition of in-room wireless connectivity. In addition, mobile phone and handheld service while the ship is at sea is now available. The upgrades enhance the ship's already existing high technology services, which include WiFi accessibility found in public rooms throughout the ship. Sister ship Queen Victoria already offers these services.

"Whether enjoying sea days on our legendary Transatlantic Crossings or World Cruises, or visiting ports around the world, our guests will appreciate the ability to stay in touch with home or work," said Carol Marlow, president of Cunard Line.

To use mobile phones at sea, guests must have a device capable of roaming internationally and their service provider must have a roaming agreement with Maritime Communications Partner AS, as does AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and Sprint. Cunard encourages guests to contact their mobile phone/handheld service provider in advance of the voyage's departure date to verify their plan for pricing and international roaming capabilities. All mobile phone/handheld data charges will be conveniently billed by the service provider. Charges generated by guests using their laptop computers who register onboard for wireless access packages will be billed to their stateroom folios - standard shipboard Internet charges apply.

This is available in most areas around the ship; however, similar to fine restaurants and theatres on land, mobile phone service will not be accessible in the Royal Court Theatre, Illuminations, the Queens Room or in the ship's dining rooms.

Best of the Berlitz Best: Cunard Line's Legendary Grills Claim Top Rankings in 2009 Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships
November 13, 2008 - Cunard Line's legendary Grills accommodations aboard flagship Queen Mary 2 and newest ship Queen Victoria were ranked #1 and #2, respectively, among the Top Ten large cruise ships in Douglas Ward's recently published 2009 Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships. Cunard once again also received top honours for Best Overall Food and Best Overall Service in the much-anticipated annual guide, and Queen Mary 2's Canyon Ranch SpaClub(r) also ranked among the Top Ten Spas. Now in its 24th year, the well-researched book is widely considered the definitive guide to cruising. Renowned cruise authority Douglas Ward spends an average of ten months per year at sea, rating dozens of ships around the world.

Queen Mary 2's Grills category received a five-star Berlitz rating and Queen Victoria's Grills received a four-star+ rating. "Travelers can expect a truly excellent and memorable experience," Ward noted in the guide.

"It is hard to imagine a more qualified reviewer of ships than Mr. Ward," said Carol Marlow, president of Cunard Line, citing Ward's broad experience working for and, later, writing about the cruise industry. Ward is president of Maritime Evaluations Group, an independent agency that rates cruise lines worldwide. "We are committed to delivering a legendary and memorable experience and in the categories that matter most to travelers, such as food and service, Cunard continues to earn top marks. This is a rewarding testament to our staff's commitment and dedication to providing exemplary White Star Service," Marlow added.

Cunard's Grills accommodations originate from 1936 when the "Verandah Grills" were introduced aboard Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth and in later years evolved into the Princess Grill and Queens Grill. Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria continue the renowned Grills tradition providing guests expansive suite accommodations, exclusive dedicated dining rooms, sun terrace, cocktails lounge and concierge, as well as many sumptuous amenities.

With nearly 400,000 copies sold and in-depth reviews of more than 270 cruise ships, the Berlitz Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships is considered by many to be the definitive guide to cruising. The authoritative book is designed to answer questions in detail for both first-time cruisers and the seasoned cruise guest.
